New Highfields Choir has once again conquered the Archdiocese of Harare when it came ‘tops’ in the last weekend’s archdiocese of Harare Choir Competition hosted by St Francis of Assisi, Waterfalls.

The New Highfield choir had Fr. Rebeiro’s Musande Musande as their own choice. There was no doubt that it was a polished choir and bent on retaining the trophy.

The event which attracted 53 choirs from all corners of the Archdiocese, with Chabata’s 2012 song, “Mwari Ndinoda Kukudza Zita Renyu” as the competition song.

The panel of adjudicators for the competition which comprised Fr Dandiro, Mr. Joseph Munyaradzi Jiri and Mr. Casten Kunaka who are all seasoned composers in the Archdiocese of Harare, admitted there is no doubt that the state of music in the Archdiocese is at an advanced stage.

Speaking on behalf of the adjudicators, Mr. Jiri applauded the effort made by everyone who participated in the competition and urged all people present to keep the spirit of doing for God by preaching and praying through singing.

“The purpose of all this is to encourage prayerful singing”, Mr. Jiri said.

Second in place was Holy Cross, Budiriro; third was the hosting parish, St Francis, Waterfalls, fourth St Patrick’s, Glen Norah and St Monica Chitungwiza coming fifth.

The next competition will be hosted by St Joseph’s Hatfield on the 24th of May 2014 and the competition song is ‘Tenzi Wangu Huyai Kwandiri’ by J. K Dzingai.
