According to In Touch, an e-newsletter of Jescom Zimbabwe,  Fr Chiedza Chimhanda SJ, rector of St George’s College, was appointed Delegate for Formation, succeeding Fr Anthony Berridge SJ who held that position for ten years.

The Delegate for Formation assists the Jesuit Provincial Superior in all matters relating to the formation of the young members of the Zimbabwe Jesuit Province. Close to 60 young Jesuits are still before final vows, though some are already priests and working, but most are still doing studies.

The formation of a Jesuit begins with the novitiate (introduction into the life of Jesuit, 2 years), followed by philosophy (and some theology – 4 years), regency (about 2 years of practical work, mostly teaching), theology (3 years); the final test is the tertianship (about nine months), followed by final vows. Some young Jesuits do special studies, depending on the work they are going to do.
