The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society has launched a $3,3 million water sanitation and hygiene project meant to benefit over 100,000 people in Chivi District (Masvingo Province).

The society carried out feasibility studies of rural areas in need of assistance and identified Chivi as one of the areas in need of urgent attention.

The Secretary General for the society, Lucky Goteka, said a team was already in Chivi to implement the project.

The money will be used to drill 50 boreholes and to rehabilitate 350 run-down ones. Some will also go towards constructing toilets.
