Africa University, an International Pan-African and United Methodist Church-related Institution in Zimbabwe, invites applications from suitably qualified and well experienced persons to fill the following strategic positions:

1. Educational Technologies Administrator

Key responsibilities
–    Work collaboratively with Faculty, staff and students to support learning design and the use of technology
–    Partnering with Faculty to make the best use of technology to enhance student learning
–    Support on-campus and on-line courses through the creation of websites
–    Supporting the use of course management systems
–    Developing audio visual learning objects
–    Exploring new technologies that support student learning
–    Supporting Faculty and student use of learning technologies through training
–    Being a resource and trainer for E-Learning classrooms/seminar facilities and related equipment on and off campus
–    Coordinating multi-campus educational delivery projects
–    Making a special contribution to Distance Education by applying and adapting appropriate pedagogic strategies and techniques and principles of instructional design into on-line and video-conference-based learning modules and/or course environments
–    Working with Faculty or other content experts in research and actual course creation and/or adapting existing courses to the new learning environments.

Technical Skills and Requirements
–    Self motivated with excellent people skills
–    Ability to follow through and track both individual and project tasks
–    Ability to communicate clearly and authoritatively at all levels
–    Adaptable and able to work under pressure
–    Proficiency with web development technologies
–    Familiarity with SCORM and /or AICC
–    Proven track record working with at least one leading learning Management System such as Moodle, Blackboard, etc

Education/Experience: A Masters degree plus 2 years of professional level experience in developing and implementing instructional technology programs.
 
2. Web Designer/Web Master

Key responsibilities
–    Design and development of the Africa University Websites and its continued update
–    Liaising with all user departments pertaining to the content of the web site
–    Continuous re-design of the web site so that it is an effective marketing tool for the university
–    Work with the Systems Engineer as a programmer in systems design projects.
–    Work with Systems Engineer to support other existing university Information Systems
–    Train users in computer applications and also train in the outreach unit
–    General computer users support and ensure that the service delivery of the ICT department is unequalled
–    Any other duties as assigned by the Director

Technical Skills and Requirements
–    Experience working in a communications/public relation’s environment, particularly in a university setting, highly desirable
–    Advanced knowledge of XHTML, CSS, HTM5 and of digital imaging and illustration with Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXPress, etc with formal training an asset
–    Knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, PHP and dynamic HTML; experience with Macromedia Flash, Dream weaver and Content Management Systems 
–    Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues (IE, Firefox, Chrome etc.) 
–    Must know one of the programming languages such as Visual Basic, Java, C++ or C# 
–    Must have experience with Relational Database Management Systems such as  SQL, MySQL, MS-Access or Oracle 
–    Very good spoken and written English in order to design prototypes and train staff and faculty 
–    Attention to detail, customer-service orientation, and creativity in problem-solving 
–    Ability to work in a team and to communicate in a clear way to provide training to staff and faculty 
–    Formal training in desktop publishing applications, and photography definite assets 
–    Superior knowledge of current web-design trends and techniques, a strong online portfolio displaying user-centered design, and experience with web database solutions definite assets

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in any of the following: Communications, Information Systems or Computer Science with at least two years of working experience in web design.
