Pentecostal churches around the world are increasingly embracing the visual asthetics forged by the Western blockbuster culture. The video below is a good example of such trend.
A promotion tool for the 2012 Pastors and Leaders Conference held in the United States at the beginning of this month, this video uses Zimbabwean Bishop Tudor Bismark ‘s visuals by exploiting the semiotics of a spy movie from The Mission Impossible series. One is only left to wonder how much the churches that commissioned the clip paid in royalties to the copyright holders of this film franchise.
Purely Zimbabwean examples of the Hollywood blockbuster trend include River of Life Eastlea and Prophet Makandiwa’s and Angel’s posters.
