The much talked about December 12, 2012: 12/12/12 created hype among Christians in Bulawayo, as many churches held prayers in “anticipation” of the end of the world.

Christians say the number has spiritual significance in that Jesus had 12 disciples, the number of tribes of Israel is also 12.

Many people in the second largest city took the day to the extremes, as rumors spread that the world would end on this very day.

One of the churches which held prayers was Glad Tidings Fellowship. Their belief is that the date is very special in the calendar of God “because we are standing in the gates of time,” Pastor Dawson Masuku said.

Last year November 11, 2011: 11/11/11 also caused quite a stir as people anticipated the end of the world that never came.

Such incidences have led to the deception of many Christians who fall prey to false prophecies, thereby losing focus due to panic and fear.
