The Anglican Diocese of Manicaland is dealing with problems faced by St Augustine’s Mission School in an amicable manner because it is under its jurisdiction, the province’s head Bishop Elson Jakazi said.

He said he will meet with the Secretary for Education, Sport, Arts and Culture, Mrs Constance Chigwamba, in Harare to find a solution to the problems at the Anglican-run mission school.

He said it was the responsibility of the authority to establish a School Development Committee not what was being claimed by “the self-appointed parents’ representative Mr Admire Mpofu”.

Bishop Jakazi said parents had no mandate to run the school through an SDC because it was disbanded in 2009 after failing to account for USD 6,000.

“Mpofu does not belong to the church, we don’t even know which church he goes to,” he said.

“This is a mission school run by a board of directors and according to Anglican Church ethics. You can ask even the Roman Catholic or Methodist churches on how they run their schools. We employ the bursars because we are the authority.”

Bishop Jakazi said the Anglican Church was trying to run the school in a professional manner and provide excellent education to children.
