NewsDay reports that Roman Catholic Father Fidelis Mukonori, SJ, President Robert Mugabe’s spiritual father, described engaging in hate speech as primitive.

“Hate speech is primitive. And this is 2012. Hate speech is not acceptable,” he said during a workshop on the state of journalism in Harare  recently.

Mukonori said there was need to deliberately promote peace and the media was a key pillar in guarding it. He added that it was regrettable attention had been given to media stories that stirred conflict rather than the ones promoting peace.
